HDV Down Converting?

I heard about down converting your HD. Is there something in camera that does it or does premiere pro 2.0 do it? Im talking about HDV as far as the SONY HC1.

I shot some footage in HDV and I want to put it in premiere pro 2.0 as dv and edit it.... Isn't there something like a proxy or something to do that? HELP by explaing how this is done please... thanks!

I don't have the HC1 manual handy but the HC1 will downconvert HDV to SD over firewire.

The manual is a bit confusing but it gets you to the righ touch screen and its not that hard to figure out.
