What are the pros and cons of a TV vs Monitor? I am trying to find a good way to show clients raw EX3 footage from my powerbook but on a bigger screen and less desktop clutter.

what would you go with?

both have DVI inputs.

I don't know if the TV is the exact model but pretty close to the one below. Is there any reason to go with an HDTV or should i just get the bigger screen and go with the monitor?

22" HDTV LCD for 319.00

or 24" Monitor for 279.99

I'm unsure what screen size your laptop has, but you may want to reconsider putting down cash if this is only for a client. A good 15-17inch LCD on a laptop is more then enough to show off footage, and it is also economical and space saving. It's nice to have a bunch of stuff in the field, but you must remember that you'll need a case to transport it in, and someone to carry it.

Take for instance news vans...they don't use large screens, but rack mountable small LCD...most of the time smaller then your laptop screen.

Now if this is for your "home base", office, etc., then an extra display can never hurt, and can actually aid quite heavily in the editing process. Although I'm still unsure if even in this situation that you need a screen as large as a television.
You can find 720P capable 16" LCD TV/computer monitors for as low as $150-200 USD.

An advantage to a Monitor/TV is the multitude of input possibilities and of course the ability to hook in a DVD/Blu-ray player and instantly watch/test your final product on a real Television and consumer player.

In short, don't go overboard on the screen size, as I think we all know that there are always cool, ease of use, necessary, or just plain fun accessories out their for your rig that you could throw those extra dollars on(Matte boxes, adapter lenses, filters, extra batteries, support systems, cabling, etc, etc, etc.)

This all said I do think it's important to have atleast one very high definition screen in your arsenal....this doesn't always mean big though. I personally have a 15.5 inch LCD on the laptop I use for editing/P2 dumping that has a 1920x1200 resolution, and I just can't even see myself doing the things I do without this kind of screen real estate....it just goes to show that size doesn't always matter with screens, it's the definition and of course your own eyes abilities to absorb the data(bad vision, you'll need a bit larger of a screen).
