HDTV master?

Well just curios. For if im going to convert DVX footage to HDTV. What is the specs on that file?

The new electronic cinemas that are coming, must have some sort of standard or have i got it completely wrong?

Not clear on what you're asking. Are you asking what are the specs for HDTV? 1920x1080 at 24p, 30p or 60i... or 1280 x 720 at 24p, 30p or 60p.

Are you asking about the tape format? There are several tape formats, including HDCAM, HDCAM SR, DVCPROHD, and I'm sure others. So you'd need to know what kind of deck you're recording to before you try to make a file appropriate for that format.

Well i was more thinking of store it on a hardrive in either.

1280*720 (24p alt 25p)

1980*1080 (24p alt 25p)

Im just intressted if I store it on a Hardrive what type of format (Avi, Mpeg2, WMF etc) and compression should I use?

Isnt D-5 what big companies store Movies in?

Don't confuse a file format for distribution and one for mastering as being the same. Most mastering formats are done at the highest uncompressed or slightly compressed format that can still be edited, changed, depending on where the distribution lies. This could be film, video SD and HD, MPEG2, etc. You will never have a higher quality master than what your original sources were - in this case DV. The uprez will be a submaster of your original sources -

D-Cinema has yet to decide on a final format - there are still discussions as to whether it will be MPEG2, MPEG4, WM9, or JPEG2000.

As a content owner, having the highest uncopmpressed format is your priority, let the distribution format dicate itself when that time comes.

If shooting 4:3, a sequential file fomat such as TIFF at 1920 x 1440 should cover you.
