Anyone ever considered using 3 cheap walkie talkies with a speaker out port to sync a HDSLR with an external audio recorder (like the zoom h4n)?
Zoom has a 1/4" stereo microphone speaker on the front. Split the front mic input with a BeachTek XLR box, use one channel for sync, and you'd still have 3 channels free to record from anything else... say a boom and 2 wireless lavs.
Most consumer 2-way radios have various call sounds which would much easier to locate on an empty waveform in FCP, and a logger could speak the title card to avoid the annoying "wait for slate" moments....
Just a thought... sound stupid? Your thoughts...
