this is the first image, I have made. (and it has taken only 15 minuntes to make)
now, I know the method, so I will be able to make very cool images.... jejejeje :badputer: )
HDRI - High Dynamic Range Image, it reflects a panoramic picture of the word onto the objects in 3D.
in the Matrix film the the metro station fight scene was built with this method
now I managed to make a sphere effect like in the Swordfish, when the actor sees himself in the bullet just after the exposion.
This thread is timely for me. I am actually working on my thesis and need to use this technique. I haven't gotten to that point in my project yet (so, if you don't mind, I just might be PMing you), but I have all sorts of Chrome Ball shots of the interior of a Museum that I need to use to reflect onto a 3D model.
Wow, thanks Aram, that was quite possibly the best read I've ever had on the subject. Very clear and concise, and now I want to go read all of Debervec's Siggraph papers!
Plus, I wanted to download HDRShop a few weeks ago when I was modeling that screwdriver, but I'm on a Mac...so now I know about Photosphere!
after reading this article, I feel that in few years filmmaking will look like this:
hey, Tom! send your CD to us! you'll be the superhero in our film!
Right now, I am working on an HDRI image and am at the point of creating a mask in Photoshop. The HDRI SHOP tutorial is pretty clear about everything up until this point. So, I'm a little stuck at this stage...
I am unsure of how to create the kind of mask in Photoshop that is needed for HDRI SHOP...anyone familiar with this? Does HDRI shop want me to reimport the images or just the mask, etc? I am at a standstill and am having a tough time figuring this out...Anyone familiar with HDRI or HDRI SHOP?
I am still working on the problem. I know a few people on these boards (well, don't know them personally, but based on there work) who might have an idea..Rich Lee and Kai come to mind...Perhaps they might stumble across this thread and give me some input...
Hmmm, maybe I should just PM him...now my problem is less with HDRshop and more with MAYA. I am trying to get MAYA to recognize MENTAL RAY. Any takers on this one....?
guys, thanks so much for the replies. yes, "maytomr" was in fact a ***** to figure out but it was indeed the problem. However, now I am discovering that finding Mental Ray was the easy part. Using it to accurately render a car or using a light probe to render a car is the difficult part.
Anyone good a lighting and rendering...please shoot me a line.
