HDR-HC1 or PD150

So, I'm a film student, and this weekend I'm shooting a music video for a class. It's a combination of indoor shots and some greenscreen stuff. Also, the final product will be 16x9. My problem is that I can't decide what to shoot it with. I have an HDR-HC1, but I could also borrow a PD150 from the school. I assume the HDV from the HC1 will be best for the shots I plan on keying, but should I use the HC1 for the rest of the shots as well, or switch to the PD150 for those? If I end up shooting everything with the HC1, I'll edit in HD, but it's not really a deal breaker, because it would be fine to do everything in SD as well.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Cheers,
Adam

WOULD you want to worry about cutting HDV footage on the same timeline as DV footage? Also, if you decide to go both, there will be more than a discrete change in image tone, texture and quality between the two cameras.

also HDV will become 16.9 by the time it is captured, whereas with the pd150, you'll either have to shoot squeeze (which does in fact degenerate your image) or mask it in post.

are no other options available?

I wouldn't be too concerned about cutting between the HDV and DV footage because the greenscreen footage isn't going to be cut in with the DV stuff. It'll be DV scene, HDV scene, DV scene, and so on, and then I would just downconvert everything to SD in the end. The difference in image between the cameras isn't as big of issue as it could be, because the keyed footage will be pretty effects heavy and wouldn't be absolutely unusable if it looked quite a bit different.

The differing aspect ratios is something that I could get around, but is one of the things that also makes me want to use just one camera.

But my options, I guess, are:

- shoot with the PD150
- shoot with the HDR-HC1
- shoot greenscreen footage with HC1, and the rest with the PD150

Initially, I'm thinking that I'll just shoot with the HC1; because I own it, and I'm used to it. I haven't really shot much at all with the PD150, but if the quality is going to be much better, I have no reason not to use that instead.

Why not just use the HC-1? The resolution is better, unless you're planning to do any real low light stuff.
