HDD Hardware question

Please tell me if I'm doing this right. I have a new computer, i7, 8gb ram, gtx260 video card, 1tb hard drive that I keep my OS and avchd (HMC-150) files on. I have added a velociraptor 10,000 rpm 300gb hard drive for the editing software (Premier Pro CS4) and transcoding software (cineform). I also have a G-Tech 2TB G-Raid for my transcoded footage that I will use for editing projects (scratch disk?). Did I put everything in the right place? Thanks in advance!

A basic general rule of thumb would be to keep your operating system disk and applications (i.e. editing software, etc.) separate from your media scratch disk. Your editing program probably doesn't need to be on a 10,000 rpm drive, but probably the footage that is to be edited would benefit from being on the fastest drive.

sounds good, but make sure to use Esata or FW800 on the G-Tech if you're using it in raid0 mode (performance). You might also want to pick up another internal drive for your documents, music library, etc. as well as a place to render files to (a bit of a speed gain here). It doesn't have to be real big or real fast to be a big help.

Also, if you keep your Velociraptor as a drive only for windows and program files, you can keep a small system image of that drive in case you have an OS failure and be up and back to editing in an afternoon instead of a week.
