HD1200A DVCPro HD Tape Deck

Okay... This is confusing me..... in the PDF for the HD1200A there is no clear description of what tape format it uses.... DVCPro HD Medium, Large, or EX ? The deck seems to have EX on it so can I assume that it can use it?

Hi:

I am using the 126-L tapes. In an EX capable deck, that gets you 63 minutes with that 126-L tape.

EX is Panasonic for the equivalent of DV-LP mode, only in Hi-Def. It plays and records with a .9 Micron head pitch instead of the .18 head pitch of the Varicam and other non EX decks. So that 126-L tape will only give you 31.5 minutes in a Varicam (when shooting HD).

I came across 126 Minute DVCPro HD tapes, so that would get me? 63 in HD or 126?

63 minutes, definitely!

Unless you shoot in DVCPro25, then you get the 126 minutes.

Not sure if the EX mode doubles your time in DVCPro50 mode, we always shoot HD nowadays.
