HD YouTube? HDuser.com?

HD YouTube somebody should make that.
Okay I have a couple questions about this idea.

1. How much space would youtube videos take up if they were hd. Example 5 minute SNL skit in 720p24.
2. How much space do youtube videos take up now?
3. How the smell does YouTube do it. Did they just start with a whole lot of capital they have a million videos on there site.
4. Apple trailers look sweet why can't Youtube have that quality if apple can. And apple has some 1080p trailers.
5. Think if DVXuser launched HDuser.com!

Dude, youtube could work nicely if their compression wasn't such a pathetic joke that made me sick to see.

Check of divx's site http://stage6.divx.com/

I've watched stuff on my 22 inch screen and it looks awesome.

Good compression....

I would think that when you would compress for web the whole purpose of HD would be lost.....unless you would expect people to wait for hours to either download or stream that huge of a file.

Doesnt take hours to download HD at all. average high speed line should be able to download around 250 to 400k per second.

Say what you want about youtube but the one thing I've found with it over all sorts of systems, platforms, etc., is that when you load a video... it WORKS. And sometimes, in this day and age, that's all you need.

Contrast that with pretty much everything else where sooner or later, unless you're a ocmputer whiz, you run into trouble (ifilm, atomfilms, quicktime, windows media player, flash -- though flash is getting better). Upgrade this. Get new version of that.

Youtube works. Despite the crappy resolution.

Ok, well I was alittle extreme with the hours download time. But I have done a decent amount of work on the web and I know that anything over 30-40mb is really pushing the limits not only on the customer getting the clip, but also on the server as well. 40mb can be as much as 5 minutes of footage with little compression, and that is just standard definition. You could expect an HD clip to be at least twice the size of a standard def clip.

I like the idea of HD on the web, I just don't know how realistic it is.

A LOT OF SPACE

A LOT OF MONEY

A HUGE HUGE HUGE SERVER

It will be done, but not by a start-up company.

Wasn't Youtube a start up when they launched? Youtube launched over 2 years ago don't you think that storage space and speed have progressed enough to handle 720p. Wow that Divx stuff looks amazing! Big file size though. I would assume to get Youtube quality that they could be 1/3 of the size.:)

170mb for a 2 minutes and 30 second file. I think if they could get it to 50mb and still have it better than youtube quality it could work.

I read about this before I posted. It is pretty good but it requires you to install something. Even the divx player would download and install and all I had to do was refresh my browser.
I don't think Zudeo works with mac computer either.

I just bought a 720p projector that I will have hooked up as a second monitor on my mac computer. If they had HD You tube I could easily display that fullscreen on a 720p projector. I do think that it would be a great niche market thou.
HD Podcast,Music Videos,Tutorials,Trailers, Short Films. Watch all of that on your home computer for free. I have no problem with ads at the end of my videos. Or even 5 second ads at the beginning of my videos (please no longer or I will lose it.
