I am building a 16-drive/RAID 6 server hot-swap enclosure. The raid controller is an Areca ARC-1280ML v1.0. I'll be using a server grade X58 or similar Xeon motherboard with Q4 PCI-E slots. I am building it fast enough (700 MB/s+) so it can handle any format I throw at it (within reason), and so it is future-proofed for 2K and beyond.
What type host of adapter do you recommend for fastest throughput for the best price? I am looking at SAS, fibre channel, and Express Bus direct connects (ala Cal Digit HDPro2) options. This would be connected to Q2 workstations, one PC and the other MAC.
Any recommendations for adapters would be appreciated by this RAID neophyte.
