whos up on the best ones out there. lcd/plasma/dlp?
im leaning to lcd.
what brands are the better ones. anyone have the tvs that can give an honest evaluation?
thanks

Regardless of technology type, the top 5 brands would be Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, LG, and Samsung; if you buy from Best Buy stay away from the Insignia brand, as those are made by Best Buy.

Not the best but maybe the best bang for the buck are the Costco Vizios. I have the 42". great set. good warranty too.

i have a sharp aquos and i love it. high def stuff looks outstanding, but the analog stuff isn't that great. my wii looks bad on it as well. but for the high def programming and movies, it's definitely worth it.

LCD is the way to go. It works great with you laptop for viewing purposes, and in recent years has come down in price. I own a Sharp Aquos 46" and I love it. It looks great and works wonderfully for me when I want to show off some HD footage. I also have the PS3 and the Blue Ray disc look incredible. I heard too many 1st hand stories about plasma so I stayed away, but I have to admit as far as size and picture quality plasma is a great bang for the buck.

Also, depending upon the size you need you can hold off the OLED Sony or Samsung.

The way I like to look at it, it would make sense for Panasonic and Sony to have the better TVs due to the simple fact that 85% of broadcasts are using a Panasonic or Sony camera, so they actually have the ability to test their cameras on their monitors (but then again it does come down to how the camera is used and the operator.)..... some broadcasts do use Ikegami cameras but not all that many.

I'd put in Pioneer and Mitsubishi before I'd include Sharp, LG, or Samsung in the "Top 5." Their standard models are every bit as good as the Sonys and Panasonics, and the Pioneer Elite and Mitsubishi Diamond series are the best you can get.

For what it's worth, I think DLP gives you the most natural, most film-like, least digital-looking picture.

Pioneer is very nice but the Sharp AQUOS is one awesome LCD TV in its price range.
The Pioneer Elite is in a class of its own but the price range is entirely different so it should be.

Cheers,

Mike

Wow,... I never knew Mitsubishi even made TVs..... and those Pioneer Elite's do look amazing from the specs. on the website alone. I'd slide both of them in between Panasonic and Sharp on my list.

If you actually saw them, you might revise up.
I've seen them all and that would depend on the price range. As it stands, the Sharp AQUOS makes one of the best LCD TV's in its price range.

I Moderate over at Audio Video Science. :)

The Elite is one of the best TV's made. The price is also in a league of its own though.

It really comes down to what's in your wallet.

1080P be damned!!! Pioneer PDP-5080HD 50" 720p Plasma HDTV

I wouldn't EVER buy anything without seeing it in person but the reviews on this TV are off the charts. If the image this TV produces is as good as what people say it is...I'd forgo 1080P and its price-tag in a heartbeat! Some say this produces the best shade of black on the market. Oh, and this tv has pc hookup, 4 hdmi jacks...pretty much everything you could possibly need in terms of compatibility. Brief vid review of tv.

Having said that, the other brands that ABSOLUTELY stand out each and every time I am drawn to the TV department of EVERY department store are Panasonic and Samsung. Hands down. No question. I wouldn't even THINK about any other brands. No matter WHAT the specs say, they look better, in person, TIME AND TIME again. But, hey, that could just be me.

Having said that, if you DO want a 1080P tv...the reviews that compare favorably to the Pioneer I linked... Panasonic TH-50PZ700U 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV
Now, you can get into the details of the different HD tvs...LCD or Plasma or DLP or etc etc etc...thats the least of your worries. At the end of the day, the wow factor...its all about the IMAGE. Period. Done. Finito.

lcd!

lcd!

you know that mitsubishi, aside from making cars and fridges, they used to make guitars too?

neway

i have a 42" westinghouse lcd and it hasn't disappointed me yet. its all a matter of preference when it comes to lcd and plasma. I'd gear towards lcd cause it'll last longer and doesnt burn the screen like plasma does. If you got money to toss around save up for either an LG or Samsung (go Korea!). Though if you like to save ur money wait till the end of year sales and use the extra money you were saving for better supplements for the television as well.

does anyone else gets pissed off when the picture settings at stores are not showing at their peak performance. I tried to change the settings to see if i'd like it and the associate scolded me saying im not allowed (and neither are they)....how am i supposed to know if i like it or not?!

I have a Sharp Aquos, and my brother has a Samsung, both LCD, both incredibly great HD pictures. Mine is 1080p. If your going to take the plunge might as well go all the way now, instead of wanting to upgrade later.

Not to stray from the topic here, but I'm looking for a 1080P in the 23-27" range.... anybody know of anything.... that is either out now or will be in the next 4 months?

I'm glad this topic came up, I'm really curious if it would be completely stupid to use a 32"1080p Sharp Aquos as a computer monitor?

Would it be a poor performer for say, color correction?

Today I was looking for some speakers and I came across with sony tv set that has a pcmcia slot.... What is that for? direct P2 viewing experience from a tv set?......
