HD-to-SD Workflow

When a client asks for an SD version of a 720p project, I have been using the
following workflow for downrezing and letterboxing:

1. Edit your 720p project using the fabulous DVCPROHD codec.

2. Nest the sequence (option-c).

3. Create a new sequence using the boring old SD DV-NTSC sequence preset.
(720x480 DV NTSC 3:2, DV NTSC pixel aspect ratio, no field dominance,
DV/DVCPRO-NTSC compressor)

4. Drag the nested HD sequence (step 2.) onto the DV sequence (step 3.).

5. Open the nested sequence in the Viewer (option-double-click)

6. In the motion tab, set Scale to 75%, and Aspect Ratio to -50.

7. Render.

8. Export the sequence using "Export Quicktime Movie...",
which is super-fast, since there's no need to convert.
Or, if you're making a DVD, use Compressor.

The nice thing about this workflow is that you get to stay in FCP
all the way to the end, to check out how the downrezing looks, etc.

Hope someone finds this useful,
Les
