HD to SD coversion

I have a project I'm doing in SD using Vegas 7. I have some HVX 60p footage that I want to mix in, but Vegas doesn't take .mxf's. I use CS3 at work so I'm going to take that footage and then convert it down to SD and bring it back home to Vegas. The project is 24p, and my HD footage is 60p. What are the proper output settings for my situation?

well.. hard to say. the HVX doesnt actually output 60p files, so is the footage 60p written to 24 or 30p? if you overcranked 24p @ 60fps for slowmo, then the footage is 24p, and you just bring it in as is off of converting it to a useable 24p file format on a 24p timeline in CS3, and if its 30p, then ..you actually do the same thing thus converting the 30p to 24p by throwing it into a 24p timeline and exporting as a useable 24p file format.

yes i shot it 60p (overcranked).

so all i have to do is put it in a 24p project (SD) and export to .avi?

I want it to still be overcranked footage so when I start editing in vegas I can have that nice smooth slow mo.

yep, thats all you have to do. youll have to resize the footage to fit into an SD project, but youll see once its in there that its slow mo and will be exported as such.

so when i put the file onto my timeline in CS3 it doesn't appear to be slow mo at all. It's exactly the same length as the audio tracks. Here's my settings:

.mxf: Video- 59.94 fps, 960 x 720 (1.333)
Audio- 48000 Hz - 32 bit Float - 4 mono

Project: 23.976 fps, 720 x 480 (1.2)
48000 Hz - Stereo

I exported to Microsoft DV avi @ 24p and the end result came out like a very stuttery 24p file. It doesn't seem like it's working like you described.
