I been doing some hd projects and I want to burn into a dvd, but the problem is that everytime that I make one into a DVD with DVD Studio Pro 4, the quality goes down big time

I been going nuts and I have no idea what to do, My only guess is that I can't make prime quality dvds with my G5 2.7, but I have friends in the industry that use the same machine to do their dvd's....

PLease help

Most of the the projects are DVCPRO HD done with the Varicam
Some of them are just graphics done in MOtion 2

Thanks

You can burn Red-Laser DVD's with HD content on them in DVDSP. They will only playback on newer Macs, though. I've heard they may play on HD-DVD players, but I can't confirm that.

Are you doing the compression in DVDSP or Compressor?

The compression I'm doing it in Compressor yes

Here is the best way to get high quality Standard Definition video from a Hi Def source:

1. Bring your uncompressed original file in to Compressor
2. Select one of these two settings depending on the length of your video
a. DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes <- this is for video 90 minutes or less
b. DVD: Best Quality 120 minutes <- this is for video between 91 and 120 minutes
3. make sure to select 4:3 or 16:9 depending on your video.
4. Rename the out put files to be the same to the left of the period ie. mymovie.mp2 and mymovie.aif
this insure that DVDSP will automatically sync audio and video
5. Compress the files and use them in DVDSP

There is no reliable way to make an HDDVD on a mac just yet. I think the first installable burner is available but i dont know anything about it. If you really need an HDDVD find a authoring company who has the hardware and can work with your DVDSP files.

Martini you may wanna check the FCP or DVDSP forums over at http://apple.com. i just got so many different ways of doing this over there, I came here to keep my head from spinning. My buddy did the ole bring the FCP Movie of the HD timeline into AfterEffects=>make an SD comp=>scale down the hd movie in the sd comp=>make movie=>back into FCP=>put in new SD timeline=>Export m2v and it looked great, but I don't know his exact dv settings in FCP upon re-import. I did this and it looked good too, but I'm curious how I haven't lost sync since I've gone thru various 24 and 2997 tls w/o making any adjustments. Trying to find the right way to do this. 720p24fps to ntsc SD 29,97 dvd.
