HD render from HMC150 video?

Vegas 8.0c running under XP Pro 64bit on an i7-920 with Gb RAM, 10K RPM system drive and 2TB of striped RAID for data.

I shot about 20 minutes of video on my new HMC150 and edited it into a short 4:30 project. Fairly simple, a couple tracks and some music underneath, no fancy effects etc.

I can't get it to render out to any HD 1920x1080 format. The Sony AVC templates all crash Vegas immediately with a program exception.

The MainConcept mpg2 1920x1080x60i makes some progress. It starts to render goes to 26% completed and hangs. rendering stops, CPU utilization drops to 0% and it just sits there.

THe HD Cineform 1080 codecs stop with an error immediately.

Is there any combination of this stuff that actually works?
 
When I read the release notes on 8.1, I interpret it to understand Panasonic native ACVHD is not supported in 8.1.


I tried dropping a few clips into the timelime and rendering them to see if it is a pure render issue or editing/rendering issue. I was able to drop 10 minutes of clips into timeline and render to MPG2 1920x1080-60i at 25Mbps without problems. Then I split a few clips and randomly trimmed them, then stacked a few clips on top of each other to force some basinc compositing and still worked OK.

Then I brought my original project up and looked very closely at the clip that it hangs up on. I deleted it and brought a fresh copy of the clip and moved the In/Out points slightly to try again. Now when the render reaches the end of that clip Vegas quits/ends/goes away, without any error message or warning.

I'm gonna keep playing with things to see what happens.
 
The Sony AVC 1080p crash you are seeing is a known bug. It's the most reported bug, very easily reproduced.

I suggest you open a new window, setup the project properties, copy/paste all the stuff from the timeline, and retry using mainconcept. It should fair better on a new .veg file. It has been reported elsewhere that this trick works sometimes, even if it doesn't much sense. :D
