HD Realtime viewing in FCP

Hi,

I am looking into changing my workflow to help accomodate this new HDX HD cam from Panasonic. My question is for now, I would like to use my Sony PVM Broadcast monitor for post work with my G5 FCP Suite. If I start editing wtih DVCPROHD footage, what would I need for Final Cut Pro to be able to allow me to view my edits in realtime on my production monitor? Would I need something like a decklink card to do a realtime downconversion to my SD monitor so I can preview it in realtime?

Thanks guys!

Well.. if you're going HD... you can't go cheap. You just can't.
I would definitely recommend the KONA2 card. www.aja.com
Most the people I know editing hard-core stuff with HD prefer the KONA2 card.

FCP Guru Graem Nattress(http://www.nattress.com/index.htm) uses the Decklink. This is his detailed review on the card (the only one on decklink I have seen in detail w/FCPHD) http://www.lafcpug.org/reviews/review_decklink.html

I would suggest looking into a serious RAID setup with that as well. I emailed aja and they responded with a nice detailed email on RAID setups to work with this card.

Oh I know I will eventually need to purchase an HD monitor for viewing (which I will), but initially after I buy the camera, I believe I may not have the funds to purchase the monitor right away. So my question is, will I be able to edit DVCPROHD footage and view it in real time on my PVM Broadcast monitor? Will the use of a decklink card allow me to do this by doing a realtime downconversion to SD for me to view?

Thanks!
