HD questions...

If something is shot on HD, will it look better on a SD television than footage shot on SD and shown on a SD televison?

I've read on this forum that SD footage shot on an HVX looks better than footage shot on the DVX, when would this come into play, considering the first question?

Not necessarily. Maybe. Depends on the HD camera and on the SD camera.

Let me put it this way: something shot on HD on an HDX900, and downconverted to SD, isn't going to look any better on an SD television than something shot in SD on an SDX900, using the same lens on both.

But if you're comparing something shot in HD on an F950 CineAlta vs. something shot on SD on a Canon GL2, well of course heck yes no doubt the F950 downconverted is going to look much infinitely amazingly better than the GL2 stuff.

HVX footage shot in 16:9 SD/24p is definitely way sharper than DVX 16:9 SD/24p. But if shooting 4:3 to 4:3, they can be very comparable; the HVX will only look seriously better if you chose DVCPRO50 as the recording format in that case.
