HD proxy editing

I search the forum, there has been mentions of PROXY editing - but I just cant find it in PPro2 interface - how do I enable it?

I have JVC HD100, I downloaded the new presets, and the 720/30p playback is jerky - so I was trying to do an offline/proxy edit (edit using lower quality proxy files) to work faster...

(I dont want to spend $500 on AspectHD)

searched here.. and also the help file... there doesnt seem to be any direct reference to it...

thanks

HD Proxy editing
Save disk space and boost rendering speed with full-featured editing of low-bandwidth files. With proxy editing, progress on your high-resolution projects can continue even when you are working away from high-end, video-optimized machines. Low-bandwidth proxy files allow HD and SD projects to be edited on laptops and other general-purpose machines, giving full real-time features and performance without overwhelming the hard drive or the CPU. A proxy file may be used whether the master clip is online or offl ine, allowing for a choice in scaling the workfl ow and system performance while you edit. When the master clip is offl ine, you can later re-link the master to the proxy or recaptured at full resolution

Any luck on finding more info on this? I too am looking at doing an offline edit of HD footage (from an HVX-202) as my laptop isn't handling HD very well.

Any information would be helpful. Would I be able to just down-res all my clips, edit with those, then relink to the full-res clips? If you have an SD project file, how would you change it to HD (720p)? Would exporting an EDL of the SD project file and importing that into an HD project file work?

And what is the easiest way to batch down-res clips?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

To down res the clips to SD: Cant you do this in the camera by dubbing the P2 card to a DV tape? This should bring in the source time code that you would use later to conform your edit to the HD source media via EDL and batch capturing.

Yeah, I suppose that's one way to do it... However if you're shooting a lot of footage for a short film, say, that's a lot of dubbing to do. And that way you'd have to transfer the files from the PC to a P2 card 8gb at a time and then dub them, which could be time consuming... Unless, of course, you do your dubbing in the field before you empty the P2 card onto the laptop/P2 Store... but then this could tie things up on the shoot...
