hd or ssd to speed up editing?

thats what id like to know can they all go on the same ssd for adobe stuff?

Well I added my SSD today and put my cache files and preview files on it. I can say the timeline renders AND the exports are about 30 percent faster. 4k with no heavy effects plays back in the viewer at 1/2 with a drop every now and then. Full is very jerky. Something else I noticed is I get the fastest times by rendering back to my G: drive (7200 WD Black) where I store my original media. Rendering to the new SSD, the C: drive SSD or my external USB 3.0 drive is taking around 10-11 minutes while the G: media drive is around 7-8. NOTE after further testing the export times where fluctuating all over the place, so can't really trust my initial observations. G: WD Black drive still seems to average out as the fastest
i7-3770 3.4 CPU
Just upgraded GPU from 660 Ti to a GTX 970 and see improvements because of that as well.

ok thanks for the info, I downloaded a aecc benchmark files and did the tests to compare my system to a similar one with i7 and a gtx titan and I was suprised a little , the i7 obviously is alot better at few things but the 780 held up pretty well against the titan.
anways, I will be getting that ssd tomorrow so ill set it up like yours, Im curious how many other drives do you own? and how do you have your files like cache ect at.

i5 3570k 4.2ghz
16gb 1600mhz ram
gtx 780 3gb
500gb samsung 840 evo (os)
120gb samsung 850 evo (cache files, Preview files , ? )
2tb 7200 rpm ext ( backup)

im curious do you use ray tracing with ae? I thought the maxwell isnt supported for aecc ect. thats why I sold my 970 for the 780 because it is supported.

Well here is how it is setup now. No RAID
C: 120 GB SSD -OS (read/write='s 500Mbps)
E: New 120GB SSD -Cache and Scratch (500Mbps)
F: 500 GB external USB 3.0 -Project files (100Mbps)
G: Internal WD Black 1TB Media(video files) and exports (130ish Mbps)

If anyone else has a better way to configure this please let me know. I don't do this professionally and am not worried about backup, hence the lack of RAID 1 or 5. My only concern now is speed of editing and rendering/export.

same here im going to have pretty much similar ssd setup/hd setup.\
btw what adobe apps and other aps do you use?

I have the CS6 Master Suite, only been using Premiere Pro lately though, and DaVinci Resolve Lite. Just bought a GH4 and not using Resolve on GH4 stuff. Finding Colorista II in Premiere Pro pretty effective for grading GH4 stuff. Simplifies the workflow and is less hardware intensive. Finding Film Convert 2.1 and Neat Video really bogging down editing/machine, that has always been the case though, just more so with 4k footage... of course.

ok. well I just got my 120gb samsung 850 evo for cache and preview files And its not showing up under my pc browswer window, I have to format it right? whats best method for that?
it shows up under samsung magician software.

thanks
