HD Monitor question

Hello,

I apologize as i know this has already been discussed and I do search the forum threads when i have any questions and usually find the answers easily. But unfortunately, I have not been able to narrow down what i need to know about monitors. I am using an HVX200a and as we all know, it is practically impossible to get proper focus with the on camera lcd screen. Now after a bit of research here in the forums i have narrowed it down between Marshall, Manhattan, and SmallHD monitors. So my question is, which of the three monitors should i go with for a budget of $1000 or less? And also i have no idea what features or outputs i would need from a monitor that i would use with an hvx. I've never had any experience using or purchasing an HD monitor. Any advice would be much appreciated and any suggestions of other monitors are welcome. Thanks again.

I'm looking at the same situation with my 170 right now. for the money, I like the Small HD because it looks like it has the best native resolution, and built like a tank. But it looks like there's a wait to have them ship you one though. And I would like to see the new ikan VX7 (LED backllight 1024x600 with HDSDI input), so I may try to hold off until early next year for one of those. Maybe? My guess is the SmallHD connected to your HVX via the component breakout cable will be pretty nice!

Thanks for the input Collink. I've been leaning towards the smallHD too. I just need to figure out if its more beneficial for me to go with the Manhattan or Marshall that give me a couple of other features as well, or go with the SmallHD which has much better resolution but doesnt seem to give any other features (color matching, focus assists). But as long as i can find out if the Manhattan or marshall in 1k price range are true HD resolution then that would help. I would just pick the extra features as long as I'm still getting true HD. Cuz in the end thats what i want mostly, true HD for focusing. Thanks again for the input. Much appreciated.

We have stock and usually ship within 24hr. The website will be updated later tonight. Thanks for considering SmallHD. Let us know if you have any questions.

Yeah I was in the same boat a couple of months ago and bought the SmallHD and love it! You don't need all those fancy features as the other monitors are trying to make up for their lack of resolution. When the picture on the DP1 is sharp, it is SHARP! Plus I use it with my SGPro and it works beautifully.

Johnny, We are in Orlando and you can come check us out. We have our new 8.9" (1280x768) HD8900 available now.

To answer some of your questions, our HD8900 accepts HDMI and Component Video which will cover your needs. The monitor has tremendous picture control, refer to the specs here http://www.manhattanlcd.com/product_p/7010.htm The only thing our monitors don’t have is false color for checking exposure, however if you are just trying to get a good focus, this monitor is perfect. The advertised specs of our HD8900 is 1280x768, 250 nits, 500:1 contrast. I also can increase the brightness to 300 nits if requested.

Thanks for the input everyone. Its a big help. As of now I might be leaning towards the Manhattan HD089C. Its features, resolution, and price are appealing to me. If only it had a false color feature but for the price I can't complain and I could use the rest of my budget to start saving for a new tripod which I'm in dire need of as well. This is only as of now and I'm not positive. If I decide to not get a new tripod and use all of my 1k budget towards a monitor then I'm back to square one. All three of these monitors seem really good and I've read nothing but good things about them. Any more advice is welcome.

Also, has anyone ever had any problems with either of these monitors or know of any reason why I should not use any of them. Thanks again.

Johnny
