HD from DVrack to Vegas

I just now started playing with HD, and I am using DVrack until I get my rebate card. I can't figure out how to get the clips to look normal though. I set up my shots looking at the 720 monitor on DVrack and they look fine, but when I drop them onto Vegas they are compressed horizontally. So everything looks skinny.
Is there something dumb I am missing here? I played with the clip's pixel shape and the projects' and tried all combinations. Is it something in the camera? squeeze isn't an option when shooting HD so I am lost.
 
720 footage should come out fine on any timeline. It's not squeezed like widescreen DV.

Are you sure it's 720?
 
Vegas doesn't know about the aspect ratio of the clips. The project size should be 960x720 with an aspect ratio of 1.33333. You'll have to change the aspect ratio of the clips in the bin to 1.33333.
 
what about 1080i?

project 1440 x 1080 1.33333 and clips to 1.33333?
changing the aspect ratio of the clips in the bin means changing their pixel shape in their properties? I guess not because Michelle still looks like a tooth pick.
wait I searched for "bin" in the help and the bin is the "project media" tab... right? so by right clicking the individual clips and changing the pixel shape it was doing the same thing... so I don't understand why they still show up stretched
oh, and also, my preview looks to be 4:3... I am going to see if I find something in the preview device preferences that might be the hurdle

woooowww I think I found it... maybe... it certalinly looks better!!!!!!
I right-clicked on the preview and right there was an un-checked option to simulate device aspect ratio... should that allwayd be on or will it not allways do it right?

Hey David, I am really going to try to make the bootcamp if you go... Barry and you will be a killer combo! It will be hard since I am spending all of my money on equipment!
Hey, you should check out my first editing job ever which was also my first test scene shot myself with any camera... it is called Vacation and I made a thread on the screen grabs and footy section of the HVX, it was done in Vegas... I bet it will make you laugh I'm sure, but to my defense I didn't have great stuff to work with so I didn't spend enough time on it since it was done so quickly and with zero pre-production... I'll spend some serious time on my next one, that way you guys can see how much I suck and hold me to it :)
