Your chart is not accurate. Premiere CS4.1 does directly support importing of native AVCHD, and does not require any sort of intermediate codec.

Yes you're right Barry, I was just rectifying my board when I saw your post. It is done !

I've modified my chart in order to make it as accurate as possible. Let me know if anything is wrong. I'll correct if necessary. Thanks !

1. AFAIK FCP 7 cannot edit AVCHD without transcoding it via Log And Transfer. Ie, no native editing of AVCHD in FCP 7. And, do you really edit the native MPEG2-stream in FCP 7? AFAIK, it is transcoded during capture to I-frame, ie no native editing per se of the long GOP HDV MPEG2-stream.
2. Regarding Premiere Pro CS4 > XDCAM EX/HD, what do you mean with "(not BPAV files)" ?
3. Native is spelled Native and not Nativ. :)

I think the BPAV file for XDCAM EX is just metadata to keep the file structure intact. It doesn't really impact editing in anyway so I'm not sure why this information would be relevant. It's not a video or audio file so you can't really "edit" it. That should be removed.

If you edit with Premiere Pro, you need the BPAV folder...so don't delete it.

Averdahl, on Final Cut Pro documentation, it is written : Native editing for HDV including 1080i. ( http://www.apple.com/fr/finalcutstudio/specs/#finalcutpro )

I'll add a "e" to "nativ". Thanks !

PerroneFord, you're right : I'll try to express the fact that different codecs than Cineform can be used in some situations.

Huy Vu, BPAV files are indeed metadata. From what I understand, some people do prefer to import informations which are contained in these files. Why not to inform about the fact it is possible or not to do it ?

But it is true that such information may disqualified Premiere for those we do not know what BPAV files are. It is important anyway for any XDCAM user to learn what BPAV files are. So I now think that I'd rather not remove this BPAV information.

Eric1138, it is better indeed not removing BPAV folder from your HDD in order to allow editing softwares to import XDCAM, but Huy Vu is right to say these files don't really impact editing in anyway.
