HD Footage to SD DVD with Chapters

Hi Everyone,

I've spent two days experimenting and encoding and I can't seem to find a simple and easy workflow to accomplish this and I know there has to be one!

I shot a two hour church service in AVCHD and I want to burn the two hours to an SD DVD with chapter menus. I'd like there to be a play button that plays the whole service and I'd also like there to be the option to go into a scene selection and pick where you'd like to start the video. I do this all the time with weddings that I shot on my DVX100.

How do I get the HD footage out of FCP7 with the chapter markers intact and downgrade the footage to SD? I'd prefer to burn the disc using iDVD as I am more familiar with it, but if someone can point me to a video tutorial for DVD Studio Pro that will walk me through this step by step then that would be great as well.

Thanks!

FCP can do a direct conversion to an SD format (scaling isn't usually too reliable with FCP, but it'll get the job done for quick SD) right from Quicktime Conversion, I'm pretty certain that the .mov container will keep your chapter markers from FCP. Alternatively, you can use Compressor and downscale and encode straight to MPEG-2, but I'm not sure about chapter preservation then.

Oh if only...

As far as I understand, using export > using quicktime conversion in FCP does not keep the chapter markers. The only way to preserve chapter markers is to export a FCP movie file. If I'm mistaken someone please let me know.

Thanks for the article, however, it's as I thought you can only export as a quicktime movie, not using quicktime conversion and keep the chapter markers. When exporting as a quicktime movie you cannot lower the resolution of the video to SD. I need to export with chapter markers while lowering the resolution to SD.

Thanks again for the help!

Do you not get a similar menu to this? Simply change "Current settings" to any SD preset.
