Having a standard HD optical format should benefit HVX shooters indeed. Blu-Ray burners will begin falling in price as the format picks up steam. Good news for people that want a way to distribute physical media with HD content.

Rest in Peace, HD DVD.

I'm not buying a blu-ray player yet either. Only just started doing any serious research and I guess the majority of current players won't be able to upgrade to the next rev of blu-ray, which is in the works? I'll have to look into it more, but it seems as if the BR standard is not established yet and there are a lot of machines that won't be able to play blu-ray 2.0, whatever that means. Any Blu-ray fans out there who can comment on the facts of this?

Yes, you are essentially right. But those of us who got our blu-ray via the PS3 will be fine.

(For some reason I can't forget the two strangers at BB at xmas, bratty frat types, standing in front of the HD DVD selection, making fun of me looking at the blu-ray DVDs.)
