HD Camera with SD Switcher?

My question is, can I use an HD camera with an SD switcher? The specific hardware I'm looking at are as follows:

•Panasonic AG-HMC150 (shooting at, lets say, 720p @ 30fps)
•Edirol/Roland V-8 eight channel video switcher

Obviously my switcher output wouldn't be HD if they work together, I'm not concerned about that. I'll be using the camera for other applications as well. I'd love to just purchase the two and see if it works by connecting them, but I don't have that kind of money to throw at trial and error.

To elaborate on my question:
Are they compatible/will they work together? If/when I connect the two, will there be any side effects to the signal? Any information along these lines will be helpful. Thanks!

According to the HMC150 brochure, the camera can downconvert to SD on-the-fly, so yes, you could hook it up to the V8. The side effect is that it doesn matter what you're shooting/recording at, the "live" feed is going to be SD only.

If this is stuff you're looking at buying new, have you looked at a swticher with HD capability, like the Edirol V-440SD? More money, yeah, but you're going to get more use out of it down the road. (Or, alternately, if you're not looking long-term at this point, go with an SD camera.)

Awesome. Thanks!

The reason I brought this up was...
I want to take advantage of the HD when shooting productions that will see post. The reason I want an SD switcher is because it is sufficient for our live productions while staying within our budget.
