hd camera choice: need some instant help

A friend has been hired in to shoot and edit a TV show that has already been picked up by some broadcaster (dunno which one). The concept is independent journalism or something like that and they want to go HD. but there are problems:

- my friend has not yet switched to HD so has no camera
- the company wants to buy a camera but have no clue what to get
- they have enough money in the budget for a decent camera <$7000 but are hell bent on shooting on DV tapes rather than a hard drive or P2
- the company insists on buying a camera that they own rather than renting one
- apparently they are buying a camera TOMORROW!

I've been consulted but I'm totally blank on HD so I'm hoping someone in here has some fast and good advice

just because I'm biased toward Panasonic my original thought was the HVX200 but I'm having a hard time finding out if it can record HDV or not.

it's really a big mess: they want broadcast quality at a very low price and I'm not sure that's doable.

anyone have some advice:

- what camera should she recommend they buy?
- can the HVX200 shoot HDV (and is it overkill)?

HVX cannot shoot HDV and in fact can only record HD to P2 cards.

Sounds like the company wants an XH-A1.

thanks for the quick reply Huy. Damn this HD stuff is confusing as hell. I just started looking into it and it feels like I have to re-learn everything from scratch. everything was so much easier before when we only had SD and DVD

I have the JVC HD110u and really love it, My main choice for it was the shoulder mount so if you are looking for handheld its not the best.
Shoots HDV.
