I've been trying to create a certain effect for a while now with no sucsess, but i saw on one of hbo's commercials exactly what im trying to do. maybe someone can help.

now this is a transition im looking for. if you've seen the commercial (its one of those commercials they have at the start of every new season) the transition they use looks like multiple side swipes to make it look as if your looking at a film reel speeding up then slowing down. i dont think i can explain it any better :-/
so if anyone knows how to pull this off in AE or premiere it would help me TONS!
Thanks.......

Re: HBO commercial.

Well if you mean the begining of the commercial well thats all made in 3d and for the compositing they use Inferno or smoke, it would help if you can tell me exactly what ur talking about but i think it would be pretty tricky to pull it off in the other hand in inferno and smoke its like clicks away and i know for sure you call pull that whole thing off in avid DS cuz i have been using DS for a while.

hmmm... i dont think we're talking about the same commercial. the one i speak of simply uses a "side swipe" type transistion. its multipile swipes to make it look like its a film reel slowing down. hope that helped. ???

Re: HBO commercial.

If I understand correctly, it's the look that occurs when adjusting the speed of a film projector and the frames slide up and down until it settles and centers.

I think it would be possible to do this by having two layers of the same footage. Then use keyframes and transforms to shift the upper and lower videos. For example, start with the lower video visible and the upper video transformed off screen to the right. Create a keyframe for these positions. Then select a location farther in the timeline and create a new keyframe. Move the lower video left and offscreen. Move the upper video so it's now visible.

You are creating a motion path for each of the video tracks to follow.
