Hawaii

See Jarred's post above. The full bootcamp has been delayed until a future date; refunds will be given. For those who want to work with Kevin, he will still be conducting his workshop.

Just to let everyone know -- things here on Oahu are just fine. The only inconvenience was that there was no power for a day.

No significant damage. No emergency conditions. And the aftershocks haven't been felt on this island.

Conditions on the Big Island are a different story, however.

Hey Kevin, I'm flying to Honolulu tomorrow. It'll be waaaay to expensive to cancel. I'm chilling at Queen Kapiolani for 5 days. Please let me know what's going on... regards, Constantino Ferrer losceretones@gmail.com. This really sucks, this is my second Hawaii bootcamp cancellation... The first time I lost $300 %$@$#@#!#@!

I'm at the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel. I think that's pretty close to you.

All I know is I'm planning on getting some footage that'll make these guys wish they were here. :)

Gotta run, have to figure out where I want to be for sunrise!

I have to try and get some shots of that!

Here's a couple shots from this morning. Nothing serious just looking around seeing what's here. Tomorrow I'll try to get some good stuff.

yep, Charlotte, Charleston or Savannah... The South will rise again! Any updates on refunds and alternative activities for the ones stuck in Hawaii?

Hung out with a couple DVXUser's today. Had allot of fun.
Met John this morning up at the pull out by Diamond Head lighthouse.

I was up there before sunrise and got this footage.

We headed over the the UoH campus and shot a little in the cactus garden there and went over allot of the features of the HVX. Grabbed some lunch then headed over to another side of the island where we had some killer waves but also some killer rain.

Headed back over the mountain and had blue skies again. To bad cause the waves were awesome. Said goodby to John and headed back to the hotel to get ready to go over the the beach and shoot the sunset.

Met Tino (cereton) on the beach. He was scoping out the area and I guess sine I was the only one there with an HVX figured it had to be me. :)

So, I shot the sunset and got these...

After the sun set Tino and I just hung out talking about the HVX and I said something about the 2fps hack.
Well, luckily I had stored it on the card before I came over so I called it up and shot some footage well into the night.

You can watch a QuickTime 7 clip of it here

I had the aperture set at 5.6 and I still had my polarizer on.

If the weather holds tomorrow John Tino and possibly Lynn and Brad are going to meet up at the Diamond Head Lighthouse pullout again and then we'll see where we want to go and what we want to do from there.

You guys are missing out on allot of fun!

Hey Hoff,

I'll give you those later. Right now I'm dumping P2 cards so I can meet Tino out on the beach for sunset then there's an outdoor film festival set up on the beach afterwards so we're going to scope that out.

Spent the day shooting and talking about the HVX and filmmaking with John and Tino and we've been having a great time.

So I'll jot down my settings when I get back in tonight provided I can find my hotel and walk. :)

Kevin, those grabs are just beautiful! Love that sunset, sail, palm! Wow!

And the timelapse is pretty cool, too. Obviously, your camera tripod is not on sand though it looks like it. Great job on finding a location (so close the the water) that no one bumped into or anything.

Ted

Oh! Just saw your grabs on the privious page (as well as read the updates on the bootcamp!) That sucks it has been postponed. But I am glad to see you're making the best out of it!

Keep the pics coming! They look great!

Hey Ted,
We've been having a great time here in Hawaii. We've been getting out doing allot of shooting.
While I think everyone still wishes the Bootcamp had gone, I think everyone that I've met so far still feels they got something good out of coming to Hawaii.

John who has been thinking about getting a HVX had the opportunity to see it in action, shoot some scenics and watch the footage. He's now sold on it.

I think to be there while it's being captured and then to see how it looks was a big deciding factor for him.

Tino already has an HVX but didn't have any P2 cards. So I gave him a couple P2 cards and we went out filming. Once he saw the variable framerate footage, he's now in the market for P2 cards. :)

We all sat on Waikiki beach last night and watched a film that Vince another member who was going to attend the bootcamp, dp'd on. The Hawaii International Film Festival has a thing called sunset on the beach. They erect a 30 foot screen and project films right on the beach. Here's a link to it.

The film by the way was awesome. Tonight is a double feature.

We're going to try and get together with Brad who also flew in to go out either today or tomorrow and get some time on his HVX.

So hopefully everyone else feels that they've come away with something and know and understand more about the HVX then when they came.

It also doesn't hurt when you're surrounded by stuff like this either. :)

Gotta run, Tino and I are headed out at 5:45 to go capture the sunrise.

Hoff, I'll try to get those settings to you later. I pretty much used the same settings for everything.

Looks like a great time! That beach-side cinema screen looks sweet. I wish I was there!!!

Can't wait to try out an hvx myself one day!!!

Another great shot there! Keep them coming!!!

Ted
