Hawaii

Liquid Planet has nice facilities but there's a serious lack of parking that could be a problem during business hours.

see.. thats why we need you guys on the ground over there to guide us land dwellers the right way.

We can take my boat out and ATTEMPT to catch something... :-)

While I'm pretty competent at covering these activities, I still suck at actually catching stuff. That's why I took up spearfishing. See 'em. Shoot 'em.

Okay, took off from the day job to attend on the 18th and 19th of July!

What's the expected attendance, and what sort of facilities or resources will you need?

I was thinking the same thing. There's lots of places we could go to of course, including many of the hotel conference rooms for one. Waikiki is central and everyone knows how to get there, but parking can be bad depending on which hotel (Waikiki in general can be crowded).

Not sure if it's too late to mention, but the University of Hawaii has an Outreach Program, which offers many classes that are part of UH's film school. Previous guests have included Dove Siemens of the 2-Day Film School fame, Mark Litwak, the entertainment lawyer, and Digital Film Group (the film lab based in Canada). I can't recall his name now, but the head of Digital Film Group in particular was showcasing the AG-DVX100 when it first came out (including example film outs)

Anyway, you could contact them and maybe even set somthing up that way. Large campus, lots of parking, and one of the large conference rooms/buildings for the boot-camp itself. I think the school even paid for all those guests to come down and visit. Maybe you could work something out with them now or for a future visit? UH would also advertise the boot-camp online and in their course program materials for people to register.

Drawbacks of course is not sure what the school's take is if any. I know this much though: lots of people in Hawaii are craving film info, especially on items like the HVX200, film-outs, etc.

James toker.. and it was one of my films he did the first DVX filmout on.

Anyways, go ahead and contact them if you want and let me know what they say, whoever gets us the best place in Oahu gets free admittance to the bootcamp.

Dean, at least the boat's better than fishing from shore on Oahu these days - more like wishing instead of fishing! Dang ulua.

Jarred...

I was just up at a friend's house in Manoa.

It sits on an acre of land. Lots of parking. And the home has a considerable amount of space available in the dining hall, main room as well as the veranda. It's actually a mansion.

I'll have to find out if there is a fee.

Any idea of the projected turnout?

thanks guys for all these great hits.. can you start PM'in me with your ideas so we dont sabotage this thread?

That's true. About time the state started enforcing its own fishing regulations. Nice to know that some bad guys got nabbed recently.

I believe two days is worth it. It will be also very nice if one hotel is reserved for the boot camp. So that people would go to the same hotel that the lectures are held. Barry Green really requires a whole day to go over the operation of the camera. Jarred had more to share. Noah Kadner needed more time. I wish there was more time for lighting. There was no time for Green screen, PC NLE discussion and demonstration. There are so many hours in the day.

So for those who think that two days is too much, TRUST ME, it is not enough.

LearningVideo... you hit the nail on the head, and thats exactly what we are aiming for.

One day for Barry to go over the camera without rushing.. The other day for me to go over all the workflow and Evin to do lighting and Noah to take care of the post. Plus our guest speaker etc.

Night before day one, we have a little mixer, maybe project some of the HVX herofest entries etc.

Plus its hawaii.. and its a tax writeoff. and its hawaii.

great!

great!
