Having any luck with Mandy or Craigslist?

I've had pretty good luck casting from CL previously but it didn't come without it's share of interesting people. One I think lived in some kind of group home and I think he had to have permission to leave or something. I don't care too much about that but he kept trying to "direct" and was getting into arguments with cast over how he cured his own leukemia (actually his "cure' sounded like a cure for anemia and when this was pointed out by a cast member, an argument ensued). The same cast member arguing with him turned out to be quite the compulsive liar and by far is the only person I ever regretted working with. She harassed me for long after the film was over and I noticed she kept trying to have "ailments" while we were working. That scared me a bit. I felt like I was being setup for a legal robbing.

Anyway, that wasn't so bad I'd stop using CL though. :) But I can say that I don't get very much response from it though and I'm thinking sometimes it's because talent is just more concerned because of all the bad projects you all have been describing. But you know, we all have to take our lives by the nuts. :) So, I push on.

I only recently learned about Mandy (shocking I know). :) I posted there for my current project and have been getting lots of quality submissions. Unfortunately, many of them are out of state. That's cool but I'm not big enough right now to be able to accommodate folks who aren't local.

I am looking for other places to post casting calls though. I did just do my first open audition notice on CL and I hope that goes well. I'm still looking for other places to post the notice to increase my turn out.

What I can say though is I have had terrible luck using CL for getting crew. I seem to always get swamped with people who are really just looking to take over my project instead of being a part of it. It seems to stem from the fact that many of them have spent tons of money on equipment and do not have enough money to make the film they want to make (I'm not guessing, this is revealed to me). I have no problem working on other people's films, paid or not. So I say, well I can help you with your project too. I figure well if they really want to run their own show, then I can help too but they don't respond to that and continue to try to take over my project. I don't think they are trying to be disrespectful or anything. I truly think they are pumped up about doing what they love to do. I just wish they could understand that all things take time and it's just as rewarding to be a part of a team too.

I'm not sure where else to go for crew. I usually end up working short handed in the end but boy am I tired. :)
