Have I struck gold? Cheap HD monitor solution...

I got a change to use the Carrion for a shoot a couple weeks ago and I have to say I really loved it. It is very bright and you can see the image clearly even in daylight. I didn't have a Noga arm to mount it to my camera so I just left it on a chair in front of me. Usually you can't really do this because if you are not looking straight into the monitor it just turns black. No so the Carrion, you can still see the image from quite narrow viewing angles. This was especially great because we didn't have another monitor for the director. The director was just standing beside me and could still see the image. I think the Carrion is by far superior to the Marshal. I liked it a lot and it will also be the one I will buy as soon as I have the money.... two thumbs up.

The Marshall is not so hot from my experience with it.

The real question is, how does the Carrion compare with the Nebtek and the Panasonic? Almost anyone who will step up for a $1,600.00 to $1,900.00 Carrion will spend a few hundred extra for the Nebtek or Panny if they think they are better.

Best,

Dan

Can people please share their experiences on the Carrion? I am looking at either the Carrion (the most expensive one) or the Panasonic BT-LH80W with SDI board. The price difference is around $700. The Panasonic comes with focus in read, pixel-to-pixel mapping and a build-in waveform monitor (like that one) and costs $2,800 in total. The Carrion comes with a higher resolution 1,024x768 pixels, two hd-sdi inputs and the love of a fellow forum member. The Carrion costs $1,945 + $175 for the gold mount plate so in total will cost me $2,120. Total difference $680. So both have some advantages.

As I am on a budget and need some other stuff as well, I can use the $1,000 for a Sennheiser Evolution wireless ENG kit or towards a Matte Box. But it has to be good. The on-board Canon XL-H1 LCD is driving me crazy. Too small, low resolution, ghosting and the combination of the three when shooting fast action creates Fear And Loathing like visual effects and makes it incredibly hard to get the image in focus.

I also want to buy an external monitor and i've heard all this talks about Carrions, Marshall, Ikan (how is Ikan by the way ? anyone uses them ? ) and It's getting me all dizzy.

First of all if they say that they are HD external monitors, shouldn't they have the full 720P or 1080P resolution ? They are at least progressive ones right ?
And what are those options that the Panasonic has and you guys seem to like to much..."red, white focus" and "pixel to pixel mapping" ?

What would be a good choice for me since I own an EX1 ?

What do all these monitors lack compared to a...let's say...Transvideo monitor, so I can make an idea on what i'm losing for the buck ?

Thanks!
