Hi
get my camera in a day ot 2 and would like to sort out the audio cables i require before it arrives.

I want to take the line out from the mixer we use and use that as the audio source.

1. do i require 2 leads (1 for left line out and 1 for right line out) or can i take the 2 line ouputs and wire them into an XLR plug using pin 2 for 1 channel and pin 3 for other channel and use pin 1 for the common ground

2. is the output from a line out source (rca) high enough)

i will be doing the cables myself as i'm pretty handy with a solder iron but not really got a clue with audio stuff

Kenny,

Regarding question one, are you actually recording in stereo? What mic(s) are you using? What are you recording? You might want to scroll down and check out a post I made: Mono vs. Stereo. If I misunderstood, and you got this part down, I apologize.

Re: have i got this right

it's left and right channel but i would say it was mono.
Mic's we use are built onto headsets.
The mixer is nothing special as it doesnt have xlr output.

we cover our local soccer team over here and add a commentary to the game.

we have been using an older sony hi8 camera which only had a mini plug for mic so we had to use a beachtek unit to reduce the line volume for the mic socket.

The result were nothing special but i am hoping we get a better sound with this camera.

I take the sound from the mixing desk line out and usually have a lot of ground noise

Re: have i got this right

You have to make two Balanced to Un Balanced cables. RCA to 3 pin XLR MALE.

On the XLR side connect (shortcut) pins 1+3 and solder the wires shileding to them. Pin 2 goes to the center of the RCA.

Adjust the cameras inputs to LINE or attenuate as much as possible.

Good luck.

Cameras audio controls under LCD control panel or manu, I do not remember.
