Have bad audio file - need HELP fixing

Hello.

a while ago i recorded a weekend long concert/convention and one of the tracks has the worst sound ever.

i was plugged into the soundboard all weekend and everything else came out fine.

what makes it really irritating is that the guy before this group came out fine and i was right there when they changed bands and i know nothing changed in my settings, my stuff was plugged into the same output jack so all i can think of is the sound guy changed something.

sound is pretty badly distorted at all levels.

if someone could download a very short clip of the sample and give me some suggestioins on how to salvage it i would be eternally grateful!

Wow.

There are anit-distortion plug ins out there, but the good ones are really spendy. In my book, when something is distorted that bad, there isn't much you can do.

Was anybody monitoring the machine while it was recording? If not, that was mistake number one.

Matthew- I just listened to it and it sounds pretty awful. Yes there are plugins out there that can help clean some of that distortion. In most cases, it only helps alittle. There's not a whole lot you can do but to start over which I know you can't. But I did the best that I can do with this computer I'm using. I'm not at my recording studio so theres not a whole I can do with it right now. Where do you want me to send the file or how? let me know. It sounds better than what you sent me, I think.

i'll email blue spider contact info...

the concert and the room where it took place was SO LOUD that on the headphones i was wearing it sounded OK.

as i said the show before and after was recorded identically, so the only difference would be the sound guy...

this fits in a documentary so if i can only use 15 minutes of it that would be ok.

i have 24 hours of footage that is perfect, the 1.5 hours of this crappy audio...

Re: Have bad audio file - need HELP fixing

For monitoring audio in noisy situations, I highly recommend getting some good in-ear monitors. These are what many musicians use on stage. I have a pair of Shure E3's and they cost about $140, but the E2's are very good as well and available for about $70. If you're not effectively monitoring, you're flying blind while you're recording and settings change, stuff happens, so you can't just set and forget.

i know that, i have those headphones + the sony monitor ones, the room was that noisy and it sounded pretty good through the headphones.

this is the only time i've ever head sound come out this bad, especially when it sounded ok through the headphones.

Matthew,

What was your signal path? Are you sure you were monitoring what was being recorded and not what was being sent? As I and others (Oleg for sure) have mentioned before the monitoring levels of camcorders don't seem that great. That could certainly account for the difference. Also, audio is cumulative, if the signal sent was hot but legal, and you had another mike going (like your onboard) that could have sent you over the digital edge...

Bear in mind I'm still heavily medicated so this might not make sense tomorrow...
