Hi everyone I Have been a member for a long time but have never done any movies . I have been doing a lot of sports for 10 years but always had a passion for movie making. Let me explain my situation , and hope I can get some direction. I have a friend that I have known for a long time. He has lived a very unusual life and would like to do some sort of movie or Documentary on it. Just to give you a quick break down . He started off a young guy that got into smuggling Contraband, then into Drugs , people etc. well then over a 10 year period it kinda ends in a situation that you would never expect. He goes on trial for Murder and Attempted Murder of another person. This was a drug deal that went wrong , but the twist is he is innocent just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Guilty by association. He has done some time, and now wants to spill the events to create a Movie , or do we go about doing a Documentary. Any input would be appreciated. I am fortunate to know some Officers who may have been involved with this case. Even maybe be able to talk to some other people who were in the illegal trade. Please how would you proceed with a project like this.

If you are going to do a documentary you will need people who will talk on the record. anonymous sources don't make for a very convincing story. this sounds like potentially dangerous business, the bad guys, or the "good guys" might not like for your friend to spill the beans. you might find lots of people with information but telling it in front of a camera might be another matter. sounds like a great story if you can get it told without getting anyone killed or up in court for libel or defamation.

So maybe would be a good movie and base it on a true story, instead of a documentary. He is willing to go on record as well as some witnesses. and everything would be public knowledge as per court documents. so better as a movie or Documentary.

I agree this could be dangerous ground.

Consider also that your friend might, in the course of the film, be admitting guilt in other crimes that he hasn't already been convicted of. The very making of a documentary could land him back behind bars.

All things considered, I think a fictional movie would be the better way to go. I'm not sure I'd even allude to it being "based on a true story". If it's a good story, well executed, then people won't really care about that.

ythanks Guess now we will move forward with the Movie Idea. Now we see what we need legally , and source out a professional script writer so we can make this amazing. cause his life is just like wow this is the dark side.

To me it also sounded better as a fictionalized story. Something ike BLOW. Maybe even some dramatic license with the ending.
