It shouldnt take more than 5 or 6 hours and it doesnt have to be perfect but this is basically what we are going to be using. Equipment wise we will use a rode ntg3 with a sd 302mixer into the camera. Im hoping it works out ok but it doesnt have to be perfect since im helping out a friend do a commercial for a small company. Im still nervous though.

There isn't too much to be nervous about, is there? Hook everything up and practice now, ahead of time. Make sure everything is there & it works. Aim the mic at someone talking, even the TV, and see the differences an angle makes. Notice the handling noise you can create holding the boom. Set your levels so you're neither extreme one way or the other. Remember on the Camera, use line in, set one channel to record at a higher level than the other, and use the mixer's limiter. Most of all relax and enjoy it.

Break a leg!

I learned alot from this shoot. We didnt get the equipment we were planning to get so we really had to imrprovise. i was lucky to have someone on board who knew sound more than me. We basically ended up with no mic until the very last minute and it turned out to be a mxl 990 phantom powered condenser mic. I didnt know anything about this mic at the time but i do now. If it had a middle name i would call it "ambient". It picked up everything so we had to make sure we had a controlled environment sound wise.A construction crew nearby when using this mic would be a huge no no . Once we got that out of the way it actually gave us decent sound to my surprise. It took experimenting to get more directional recording out of it and to get rid of the initial muddy sound but all in all having to use this mic didnt ruin anything.
