Has your attention span gotten shorter?

Maybe I have been studying movies too much lately. Oftentimes, I have some movie on in the background - preferably with the audio commentary on. At the same time I will be reading through a bunch of websites. But when I watch stuff these days it seems I just start clicking through it to find the "interesting" stuff. Maybe it is that all films are derivative, someone said once (paraphrasing) there are a fixed number of possible plots - they just get dressed up differently. Wondering if anyone has experienced what I am talking about.

It sounds like your young just because of the pace of modern technology these days. My nephew has chat on xbox live going while facebook live on his PC and chatting on his cell phone, beep beep, all at the same time, while eating pizza.
If that's the world your in it's probably normal.

As a former musician, when I spent time in my basement practicing other people music, I tended to learn only the interesting parts. And years later, I ran into a kid (25ish) that was doing the same thing and I told him that was okay for a thing to do. He thought he was odd.

No, you sound fine. Also I know people who can't work as well without listening to music while they work. This is actually something that a lot of 3D modellers do from some people I've read (and I do it myself).

Some of it is related to artistic ability, aka anxiety, racing mind...

//I guess to recap: a little anxiety, racing thoughts, depression, short attention spans can kind of go with the biz, imo.

I still wish Kill Bill was one movie and I saw Schindler's List in the theater 7 times. Good content will hold my attention for days. I prefer to watch most TV shows after they are no longer shooting and watch the entire series in a couple days. Of course I have to work so I edit while watching.

I have noticed the attention span of my clients has gotten shorter. This whole "Youtube" 3-5 minute thing has made some edits really tricky. Trying to turn 5 days of footage into 3 minutes should pay more then making a feature from it.

I completely feel you here. I found myself today listening to the giants game quietly in the background while I ate my lunch watching the daily show. No doubt, we're all getting used to more and more and more distractions, whether in the john or theater or in-laws...

That I can agree with. HBO has been showing Dances with Wolves a lot. And I will just watch it. I think I have seen it 5 times in the last 3 months. Schindler's list you bet I have seen it at least 5 times. Star Trek IV - I'll watch it (one of the funnier ones). Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, there are many more that I would happily watch and focus on. But some of the stuff floating around - now granted people are learning like I am learning - but it just seems that quality is at a low. Where the script is lacking - cussing and more blood tries to cover up the flaws. Sorry I wish I was young, not so much, not an old fart either but didn't grow up on the internet.

Sometimes people go raving about something they found and when I look at it, I go "not so much."...I mean just because you never saw Michael Jordan play doesn't mean the guys today are better than him. One movie reviewer was raving about some movie (not Transformers - but something just as bad) saying it was one of the all time 10 best movies - but the guy never saw a movie from before the 1980s. Sorry just ranting. I'll stop now. Need to drink heavily now, lol.
