Has there ever been a DVXUSER group script?

Tim Joy

Veteran
What I mean is that we write a script in the thread. Each person adding a line, or an action and see where it goes... Has it been done before?

Maybe I'll start one right now. Is anyone into this?

I'll put everything that is "script" in PaleTurquoise All other notes or comments regular.
Here is goes.

INT. EVENING. LIVING ROOM.

A MAN and WOMAN sit in their favorite recliner chairs, each reading the newspaper. From the looks of it, they must be Cukcoo Clock collectors. Many clocks adorn the walls, ticking slightly out of sync. The time changes to 8:00 and all the clocks begin their hourly dance. The woman looks at the man over her glasses. He sets down his paper and rises.

MAN
Ok. I'll go.

He leaves the room.

The man and woman need ages. I imagine from your scene the are both in thier fifties and married.

INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

The man opens a cupboard and pulls out three cans of soft cat food.

Two cats rub his legs. He dumps the food into a bowl and places it on the floor. The cats chomp down the food.

WOMAN (OS)
Oscar. Oscar. Give them three cans.

OSCAR
I know.

Oscar pets the cats as they eat. They pay know attention and continue to eat.

OSCAR
Good kitties.

The cats finish eating. They leave some food behind in the bowl.

Oscar picks up the bowl and walks to a closed door. He unlocks the deadbolt and opens up door and places the bowl on the top step. The stairs lead to a dark basement.

Oscar flips on a light and a dim light flickers on slightly illuminating the stairs.

OSCAR
Hurry up and eat.

A SMALL BOY, 12, odd looking, filthly with dirt in his hair and on his clothes, crawls on all fours to the bottom of the stairs. He slinks up the stairs, still on all fours.

He crawls to the bowl, picks up some food, sniffs it and starts to eat.

Oscar turns off the light, slams the door and locks the deadbolt.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Oscar walks in the room. The woman continues to read.

OSCAR
Why do we even feed him? You know how much those cans cost?

WOMAN
Yes Oscar. I go to the grocery store. I am the one who buys them.

INT - BASEMENT - CONT

The boy in the basement is ravenous, eating as if it is the last supper. After a devouring session, the bowl is clean and the little boy slinks back into the shadows.

INT - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

E.C.U. of a Koo Koo Clock Animal; a kitten that looks like something out of a Grimms Brothers Fairly Tale.

EXT - DAY - MAIN STREET

Anywhere US, surrounded by mountains and hills, green lush pines dot the landscape. A Green and White SUV enters our frame and stops dead center; PINE VALLEY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT is emblazoned across the door.

INT - SUV - CONT

A DEPUTY, male, late 20's, checks his looks intyhe rear view mirror steps out of vechicle.

EXT - MAIN STREET - CONT

The SUV is parked in front of Lauras's Cafe. He pauses to survey the scene on his Main Street, blissful and innocent Americana, and then satisifed, walks through the doors of the Cafe and enters.

Alright, I'll bite.

INT. LAURA'S CAFE - CONTINUOUS

The deputy enters the classic diner and takes a seat at the bar. LAURA, mid 30's, has her hair in a bun and wears an apron. She totes a small, very used, tablet and a pen.

LAURA
The usual, MATT?

MATT
You know, I'm in the mood for something different this evening. How about a burger?

LAURA is taken aback, she was not prepared for this.

LAURA
A burger? - Bu...but you never get a burger.

MATT
Well...maybe there's a full moon tonight or maybe something's shifting but I feel like a nice juicy cheeseburger.

INT. BASEMENT - CONTINUOUS

It is dark and there is no sound save a quiet, monotonous drip of water. The small boy, CHRIS, drags himself down the stairs, away from the now empty cat dish and over to a collection of boxes near the cold, stone wall. With all of his strength he pulls one of the boxes aside and looks into the gap.

INT. BASEMENT - CONTINOUS (Cont.)
Behind the boxes is a 3 foot tunnel that Chris has been digging with a spoon and his bare hands. He starts to dig but struggles to see in the dark and cuts himself as he scrapes a sharp rock. Looking around the room, he finds an old baking sheet and manages to reflect some light into the tunnel. He continues digging.

Chris continues to scrape into the tunnel. His efforts barely make away headway. It's almost futile.

Chris begins to sob and crawls out of the tunnel. Moves the boxes back and hides the tunnel again.

Chris reaches in a box and pulls out an old, tattered picture of Laura. He rubs the face of Laura

CHRIS
Ma, ma, mommy.

INT. LIVING ROOM - CONT

OSCAR and his wife, GLORIA, are again sitting in their recliners, this time watching an aged TV set. The local news channel is on; a REPORTER can be seen.

REPORTER
Thank you, Lisa. The search continues for 12-year-old Chris McConnell, who has been missing for twelve days now. I've spoken with police Sheriff Matt Anderson, and he's assured me the police department is doing all it can to locate that little boy, but would not release any more facts about the case. They're definately keeping this investigation under wraps for now.

OSCAR and GLORIA have been watching intently until now, as OSCAR turns off the TV set. OSCAR turns to GLORIA.

OSCAR
Do you think they know?

GLORIA
Well, if they suspected something, they'd have detained us when we gave our statement. Besides, we have the perfect cover. No one would suspect his grandparents.

OSCAR
I don't think so.

Can I go again? I am going to. Tell me to delete it if not. :)

INT. LAURA'S CAFE - CONTINUOUS

LAURA brings MATT his hamburger, setting it down in front of him.

MATT
Thank you. Looks delicious.

He takes a bite, and then talks between chews.

MATT (CONT'D)
So...um...how have you been doing?

He takes on a concerned demeanor now. LAURA takes a deep breath in and tightens her lips.

LAURA
I'm...I'm doing okay.

Her voice breaks and a tear escapes her eye and makes a mad dash down her cheek. She turns away quickly, but can't hide the fact that she is now sobbing uncontrollably.

MATT
Oh, Laura, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you -

CONT.

LAURA
It's just that... first it was his father, and now him. Why does God hate me? I can't take this.

Matt reaches out and touches her arm warmly. They share a moment. Her eyes meet his through the tears.

MATT
God doesn't hate you, and I'm here for you whenever you need me, you know that. Don't worry, we're on the case and we'll find him.

LAURA
(Distant)
Yeah.
(Beat)
My own father doesn't seem to care. All he does is work on those stupid cookoo clocks. And forget about my step-mom.

MATT
I'm sure he cares, and Gloria... well she's a unique woman.

This understatement-of-the-year brings out a small chuckle from Laura.

INT. KITCHEN. DAY.

The phone rings. Oscar picks it up.

OSCAR
Hello?

MANS VOICE (O.S)
Well?

Oscar is confused, but realizes who it is, and is suddenly uneasy.

OSCAR
Oh. Yeah... Well. Uhh. Everything is going good... and we just need a little more time before we ask for the ransom ok, cause you don't want to rush these things, ya know? And I'm sure once we do it, the money will be paid right away, cause we know she's got it. So-

MANS VOICE (O.S.)
You have had 13 days. You are running my patience thin Mr. Whiting, so you'ld better start thinking about getting me my money- soon, or you know what will happen to you and Mrs. Whiting.

The man hangs up. Oscar looks worried, just as the chorus of cookoo clocks strikes 1:00
