Up-amazing film

There are a lot of things they do as a company that are very unique. Check out this video of Ed Catmull on Youtube.

I haven't seen all of their films still. I really want to see Up, I've heard it's very moving. But I actually didn't really like all of Wall-E. If the whole movie had been like the first 20 minutes, it would have been brilliant. But as soon as they got on the ship and they introduced all the humans, I thought ti went sort of downhill from there. Not that it was bad, per se, but just kind of...whatever. Nothing particularly memorable or interesting really happened. There were some stunning visuals, but that's about it. I appreciate the spirit of the satire/green message, but it just didn't really gel for me.

The Blu-ray of Wall-E has a fantastic in depth documentary about the birth of Pixar. Must viewing for fans.

I need to check that out. I really did not even know I was fan until I really started thinking about the number of times I have watched most of these films.

No.

And am I the only one that can't wait for the Pixar-Disney-Marvel connection to birth something spectacular?

How is that going to birth something spectacular?

But anyways, Pixar has one of the best track records out there. It's probably because they're a studio that releases one film only every year or two, or longer. This is due to the manpower and effort it takes to put together the CG. Because it takes so much time, they spend a lot of time making sure the single script that the entire team works on for the next three years doesn't go to waste. So they really focus on story. (This is speculation of course)

Most films get rushed and films spew out like bunnies. Therefore films get get made in a year or less and story lines get mangled in nothingness, if there is a story or script to work with. Sometimes films get rushed so much so that there isn't a script on the day of shooting. Rarely this concoction will come out with something great (iron man is one of the few exceptions).

This is why I look forward to Pixar movies. The only one I didn't really like was a Bugs life and Cars, and I didn't hate them either. Nemo is still a fave of mine.

Cars seems to be the 'worst' or least liked Pixar movie to date from the polls and it's a decent movie, I was surprised to see Up listed as the 2nd worst Pixar movie, I liked it. Guess it goes to show you how they are all 8-10's, it's just a matter of which one is an 8, most are 9's and the Increadibles is a 10.

i didn't like bugs life and monster's inc. toy story 2 is inferior to toy story. Cars was the worse plot and worse idea ever i think. but people loved it. the rest is gold.

They are great story tellers. The screenplays are very solid which makes their movies so great. I thought WALL-E was great for the fact that most of it is actually a silent film. Telling a story with limited dialogue so well and becoming successful this day in age is impressive. You are getting emotion out of robots which I bet was one of the most challenging things for them. So far I say they have not made a bad movie.

I loved ratatouille the same happened with toy story, up, monsters inc., Bug's life... and wow the shorts they usually screen before the main films are also great!

Those that I've watched:

The Incredibles - ok plot, ok visuals
Finding Nemo - meh plot, too much talking, and I cannot stand Ellen DeGeneres
Ratatouille - good visuals, meh plot (even a rat can be a great cook? Or: work hard and you will succeed? Rrrrright.)
Toy Story - Very basic visuals, but this is a beginning of CG toons after all
Wall-E - My favorite Pixar movie and one of the favorite all-time movies. The spaceship part is too loud and frenetic, and humans are rendered very simplistic and "play-doh-ey", traditionally for Pixar. I cannot recall one good-rendered human in Pixar movies, this is just not their thing. But despite the shortcomings, Wall-E is great.

I'm out on my own here as I don't really enjoy these animated films as much as most, including my wife.

They are OK and maybe pleasant to the eye with all that colour splashed across the screen but I find them lacking because they all seem to utilise the same "buddy movie" formula, just within different settings.

Maybe there are some exceptions including "UP" which I haven't seen.

This doesn't seem to be confined to PIXAR as the other ones e.g. Ice Age, Shrek, are also just buddy movies as well.

BTW - I found "The Incredibles" very inaptly named....boring! the worst of the bunch IMO.

Pretty sure that, because of Pixar, Steve Jobs is one of the most successful producers of all time.
