I'm a big fan of Alexander Payne and I think he's one of the most underrated auteurs of our time. The cinematography of Nebraska is beautiful and I relate to the themes in his films. Looking forward to seeing The Holdovers...

Looks like no-one responded to this yet! Just watched a screener of the movie and enjoyed it. I've also been a fan of his for a long time. "Election" was the first DVD director commentary I listened to and I really appreciated Payne's sensibility. I also agree about Nebraska--that was one of the films that truly convinced me of the viability of digital acquistion, as I assumed it was all shot on black and white 35mm and was later surprised to learn it was a mix of that and Alexa and I had no idea which scenes were which.
As far as the current film, it leans into the 1970 timeframe it is set in without going too overboard. Performances were all great and the script flows nicely. It's great to see Giamatti teamed up with Payne again--while he is playing a pretty different character to Miles in "Sideaways", there are some melancholy moments echo the pathos of that earlier film.

Hey Charles. I saw the Holdovers recently and I thought it was excellent. The third act was a little long and it tugged on the heart strings a little too heavily, but the mood he sets and the performances were great...
