Has anyone done any Black & White 24p?

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone on here has ever done any black and white 24p work with the DVX. Something that would be comparable to *Clerks*, *Pi*, or any other B&W arthouse indie stuff? If so, are there any clips, grabs, etc. to check out? I love B&W films......and I was watching the original 1959 *House on Haunted Hill* last night, and I was sort of inspired to do some B&W work. It's getting more rare each year to see B&W films, and with HD upon us...we may start to see even less. Unless there are some HD B&W films on the horizon.

But anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had done any. Thanks,

try to get a copy of The Collective, it is a mountain bike video, they do a section in B&W that is simply unbelievable!!!

Coffee and cigarettes was filmed in Black & White. That movie is pretty cool. If you havent seen it you should check it out.

Dood...I know that!! I have virtually all the cool B&W films from the past decade.

What I was asking was *has anyone done any B&W work with the DVX*? If so, point me to it. I'd like to see some 24p stuff in B&W.

I'm going to be shooting a short this weekend and next which will be B&W with a scene or two toned. I'll post a link when I'm finished and the contest I'm entering is over.

Matt- Add a ".html" to the end of your link. As is, it wasn't working for me. I like it, though. Good stuff, man! The lighting is awesome.

Well doing things like red, yellow, orange, and blue post color filters before converting
to grayscale is a traditional workflow when converting color to B+W.

There are a lot of sites that discuss this topic in general.
The process isn't any different for a specific video camera.
I have some stuff on a dvd somewhere that looks pretty neat... but really I think
there are specialised websites out there that would be alot more helpful..
Maybe some photoshop or photo editing in general groups wold be good, too.

hope this helps,

Learn how to do channel blending for color -> B&W conversion. You will have to make sure that the grayscale is about 50% green, and then play with red and blue channels to get the optimal look (you will want red of the same intensity as blue a little brighter in the grayscale). You will probably also need to increase contrast slightly using curves, to make the midtones more contrasty.

If you check 'Professional Photoshop' by Dan Margulis, it discusses everything you'll probably need. Your NLE will probably have all the corresponding functions for color correction Photoshop has...

Good luck!

I wonder if there is a way to convert to the LAB color space in Premiere or AE... hmmm. I would think that would provide some nice clean results if you dropped the A and B channels.
