Has anyone dealt with Buell Insurance?

Hi,

I am getting an insurance quote from a company that gives a discount to WEVA members. I have had insurance with various agents and companies over the years and to me the most important factor is if they will go to bat for you when you have a claim and the company wants to contest it or drag their feet in paying.

So, has anyone had any dealings with Buell Insurance of Libertyville, IL?

Thanks,

I have, and I did not like their company at all. I'm often ask to produce insurance coverage for many shoots and calling them to forward the documents to the necessary locations was "painful" at best. From my experience, they're a small insurance company with only a handful of employees. Was the price the best in the business? Absolutely. The cheapest and most comprehensive. But the customer service was dreadful.

I have read on other forums people praising Buell insurance, so I may have just had a bad experience. I can't say for sure. I just know that after 3 years with them, I dropped them and paid more for coverage but now have no worries about customer service.

I'm confused. I've taken out insurance with a small company before. They gave me a copy of the insurance contract, which was the only document I needed to produce for any location. Why would the insurance company need to send copies of this document for you?

i would guess having the ins comp fax it to the client would be just a better way to verify and remove any doubts about the insurance as opposed to just bringing in a piece of paper that the client or venue may figure was doctored in some crazy way. That's my guess or should i say 2cents.thanks

This is the original poster here. Some locations, especially downtown office buildings, park districts, etc. demand a Certificate of Insurance be faxed or emailed BEFROE shooting where they are named as the Loss Payee or Additional Insured on the form. So your original paperwork won't do in that situation and you have to call your agent and have them do it.

So, if this ins company can't do it quickly, as within 24 hours, that would be a deal breaker.
