Hardware video cards a.e. Kona

I'm running a g5 1.6 with 3gig ram and sometimes when I want to play footage (720p) from my hvx, the full screen playback mode on the 23" display hiccups and skips frames or plays only the first few, then gets stuck on a still frame...
I'm using the stock GE force 5200 video card.

Would my system benefit from installing a AJA Kona card? Would this card add some muscle in the FCP playback engine? I will probably not use the card for input, maybe for monitoring, but I'm mostly interested in the graphics acceleration this (or other) card can provide. Any suggestions apprecated!

thanks!

If you want to use the AJA Kona card, you're out of luck with a single processor G5. AJA recommens a dual processor machine with PCI-X or PCI Express bus as a minimum.

Matrox demonstrated their MXO box at NAB that connects to the DVI port and gives you HD out for monitoring, this is promising, the demo I saw looked good, I actually touched the box, but I can't say more until I actually use it for a day in an editorial environment.

As far as the stuttering goes, I think you can resolve this. I manage to play back rendered DVCPRO HD video out to the Cinema Display without stuttering. I edit wth Final Cut Studio running on a single :( processor 1.6GHz G5 PowerMac with 2GB RAM and the GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. I also use a RAID-0 striped disk as my render disk, it definatelly helps. My display is the 21" model, tough, you might try reducing pixel dimensions in Monitor setup. You should be able to playback DVCPRO HD video without the stuttering as long as the video is rendered and don't have any CPU or disk hungry processes running in the background.
