Hardware for Vegas

I am a Dell person, and wish to buy a Dell Precision Workstation with Vegas+DVD. Are there any reasons why I shouldn't? Does it matter ? I know, dumb questions. I also do not want to get too much power or memory. I was thinking 4, mybe even 8GB. Is there such a thing as too much? Budget is not a concern. I am editing with dvx 24p squeeze and Z1 60i/cineframe25 HD. What would anyone recommend. Some have said to get Avid Express HD. What's more important, the hardware or the software. I'm sort of new to all the technical computer stuff, so no jargon please. Thanks a lot.

If you're working in Windows 32 bit, nothing can address more than 2 gig. However, you can have more, and divide it up.
If you're going to be editing HDV, there is no such thing as "too much power" and you might find yourself saying that you don't have enough.
That's all I can answer. I've not owned a shelf-configured computer such as Dell, Gateway, Compaq in my entire life...but sure answer a lot of questions from people that have problems with them enough to know that I'll likely never own one.
Video editing, particularly HD editing, isn't really suited for store-bought computers.
The hardware and the software have to work together. Avid likely WON'T run on a Dell, you'll need to check their website for compatibility. Vegas will run on just about any PC configuration.
I'd very seriously suggest rethinking buying a shelf computer like a Dell.

I wouldn´t buy more than 2GB Ram. I have rarely seen Vegas use more than a few hundred MBs. Better spend your bucks on a fast CPU, big harddisk and a set of two 19 inch flatscreen monitors.
