I'm a little confused when it comes to read/write speeds when working with media.
I have at work a mac pro that has two internal drives that have been sliced to create a RAID 0. (At least that's what I think has been done, I can't be sure because I did not actually set up the system.)
What I am trying to figure out is whether this is good enough to read uncompressed 720p 25fps material in fcp, (not write or edit, just simply view the final edit as uncompressed)
I ran the AJA system test on the drive and it was giving me a read/write speed of about the 200 MB/s give or take a few, which is what I hear you need as minimum for uncompressed. But this is coming from simply two drives... which I didn't think was possible to achieve that speed with.
Not only that, I tried a test at home with my g drive mini and was getting read speeds of 70 MB/s, which seems like more than enough speed for several layers of HQ prores. Yet I keep hearing about all these 5 disk array RAIDS you would need to work with layers of pro res.
So, what am I missing here? What am I not getting?
Apologies in advance if I'm not using proper terminology, I'm still new to the whole RAID world.
