i will be editing a feature shot on the HVX. it is undetermined whether it will be shot 720p or 1080p. in both scenarios, how much hard drive capacity will i need?
thanks!

Here's a reference:

DVCPRO HD 1080/60i, 720/60p 100 Mbit/sec , 11.75 MB/sec
budget 43 GB/hour including 4 ch. 48kHz/16bit audio

DVCPRO HD 720/30p 50 Mbit/sec, 6.25 MB/sec
budget 25 GB/hour including 4 ch. 48kHz/16bit audio

DVCPRO HD 720/24p 40 Mbit/sec , 5 MB/sec
budget 19 GB/hour including 4 ch. 48kHz/16bit audio

This assumes that for 720/24p and 720/30p duplicate frames have been removed, otherwise simply budget 11.75 MB/sec video. Also, for performance reasons, you might want to limit filling up your drives to 60% capacity.

I just BACK UP my HVX200 stuff on a hardrive / firewire external enclosure, about $150 for 250g of space. THis is not considering your computer itself, which the drives may need to be faster for editing HD. When I need footage, I plug in the drive/enclosure via firewire and transfer it over to my puter drives, keeping only the footage Im using on the computer, keeping the other footage on the external drives. That way you can keep your main drives as free as possible. You can also label each external drive with scene footage, etc. . .
