Hard Drive size

I have a Mac G5 (OS 10.3.9) FCP 4. I have about 9 hours of footage shot at 24p that I need to edit down to around 90 minutes. How big (memory-wise) of a hard drive do you guys think I would need for this?

Well Since Raw Avi is about 13 GB per hour you are looking at needing 117 GBs at least. I would get a 300GB drive so they are the best deal price wise right now. Now are you looking for an external or internal drive ?

Thanks, everyone!

SilverWolf - I was thinking external drive. The LaCie d2 Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface 300 GB looks good from some reviews I have read.

Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere near a LaCie right now. I have my own horror story but you may want to look at the reviews here.

Costco has Maxtor 300 GB One touch HD for $197.

For externals I generally just get a good external enclosure and put my own drive in it. The benefit of this is that if the drive goes up you can just replace it

SilverWolf - are you saying you build your own hard drive? That's beyond my capabilities.

No you don't buld the physical hard drive but you do buld the external part. All an external drive consist of is an external enclosure and the internal drive to go into the enclosure. You can buy an external enclosure. I have this one ; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145657
Then you just buy an internal hard drive and put it in the enclosure.
