hard drive question

I'm not sure this is the best place for this post because this is computer question remotely related to Vegas, but I have to start somewhere.

I want to use a different hard drive for each project that I edit in Vegas. Now, each time I install a different external HD (USB) the computer will assign the HD a different letter.

a) How many different HDs is Windows XP (Home Ed.) capable of assigning letters to?

b) or should I just uninstall each HD when I am finished with the project?

Any help is appreciated.

a) A, B, C, D, E, F, G... X, Y, Z! Well that would total 26, right? However, you don't have to assign each drive a letter, but rather mount it as a directory. This way, you won't be limited, and you could build a structure that will help you organize all your projects.

b) Why not!

Keep in mind that if your projects are totally separate, and don't need to load more then 2 of those drives at a time, then you can always keep the same drive letter for all the drives. What's a bummer is when you start mixing and matching. Then you have to continuously re-link your assets. If you do not remember the drive letter a specific drive had, rename the disk label with the drive letter is should have.
