hard drive advice for dummy

Hi everyone, I'm purchasing a macbook pro for editing video. i7, 2.66ghz. I will purchase an external hard drive (7200 rpm) for editing footage; does it really matter if the internal drive is 5400rpm or 7200rpm since I don't plan on using it for working w/video files?

I know this is abc stuff for alot of you guys but I don't know much about the computer end & am learning as I go and would appreciate you opinion. It amazes me how many variables are involved.

Thank you.

I always go for the faster 7200rpm drive, even internally. Boot times seem a little shorter, apps launch a little quicker and everything just feels that much snappier.

Now, it could all be in my head…

7200rpm all the way for laptop internal and external. You can find great products from OWC for bus powered mobile drives and also the Lacie Rugged series is good as well, but with the Lacie, pay close attention to the packaging or product description, the Rugged comes in both 5400 and 7200, make sure of which one you buy.
