Re: Hard Case Inquiry

I am buying a Pelican Case and setting it up with custom cutouts for my camera, mics, shockmounts, extra battery ect. Below is where such things as cables would be stored. It is water tight as well.

This link is and example:

Check it out.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

I got a Pelican 1600 as a Kit with the DVX. It has enough room for my 1ccd pany, leads, mic, batteries, tapes & more. As rich stated it is waterproof, has preasure equalising (Should I say 'Equalizing') in USA?. And my DVX of course !  ;)

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

stormcase.

www.stormcase.com

i've had a few pelicans but i like the storm case so much more. the buckles to open it are much easier on your fingers and it is just better design in my opinion.

that said, if you get a better deal on a pelican then get that, there isn't a HUGE difference between the two, more of a ergonomic preference.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

those stormcases look pretty dope and i think i might get one... do you guys have a speific model number?

and where can i order one of these bad boys???
i went to the website but didnt have an online store

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

Cases4less.com sell both Pelican & Storm cases. I have a Pelican 1600 for my DVX and accessories, and the guys are right. The latch system on the pelican are tough to open. I have skinned my knuckles numerous times opening that sucker. So I just ordered a Storm 1720 for my XL2 and when it gets here I'll let you guys know the pro's and cons.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

I've posted this before for Storm Cases:

The case OverlandFilms uses is the im2700 (Peli 1600 equivalent), though I'd recommend looking at the wheeled models as well.

These have held up really well for us after 4000 miles of adventure through desert and jungle.  Also useful for smaller separate packing of bits like mattebox, batteries / chargers is the im2100.  You can actually fit a stripped-down DVX100 in one im2100 case in the pluck-apart foam.

You can see our cases in action at the Hardigg booth at NAB - we're in their promotional video - and read about our documentary and the trek to Belize in this month's Land Rover Monthly magazine.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

I picked this one up at a sporting goods store (Sports Authority) for $35.00. It had everthing the Pelican had (rubber gasket, water tight rating, pressure release, full foamed, etc.) Only difference I could tell was it wasn't designed to run over by the military Hum V . But then, I honestly don't ever plan on letting my equipment be in that kind of harms way.

This one comes in two sizes. The large is enough for the DVX some batteries and a couple of lens attachements. The extra large would be even better.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

OB1,

Those look like they're a little lighter than the Peli and Hardigg equivalents. Also, where is the bleed valve - I don't see it in the picture.

Pangaea sells the same size (im2400) for $89 with foam if you're looking for the real thing.

BTW, no case is designed to be run over by a Hummer or its poseur cousin the H2 for that matter. If military pedigrees get you excited then you need not look further than Hardigg - they have been making clamshell cases for the US military for decades.

I've tried both - the DoskoSport case IS lighter. But the latches snap down just as tight as pelican. I mean if a 300lb. guy requested to use mine for a resting stool I'd probably deny the request - But it works good for the camera really. The bleed valve is on the bottom. I can take a pict. of mine if you want to see it.

At any rate, I'm not posting it here to put it in the same category as the storm case or the pelican, just that its a VERY inexpensive comparable that for most applications should work just fine. If I were headed off for Antarctica, I would order the StormCase.

Re: Hard Case Inquiry

Well I am goingto check out the Stormcase option. I think it would be prudent before buying something else. I was originally going to pay a Pelican but feel I should check this out.

Thanks for the tip guys!
