Hard card paper for home built matte box

Hello everyone! I found this DIY matte box for the DVX100 (http://www.desktopcreations.com.mt/dtc_shade/) and it says to use A3 sheets of hard card in the construction. I was wondering what exactly this was and if anyone knew where to get it. I'm assuming it's not regular old construction paper as it looks a fair bit sturdier. The guy at my Home Depot didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Thanks!

A3 is a size

A3 paper is an International / European paper size established by the ISO, the International Standards Organization. It measures 297 x 420 millimeters, or equivalent to 11.69 x 16.54 inches.

Yeah, John is right.(john where did you find that diagram, how sad are you?) What you need is a heavy weight card, go to staples and look for at A3 card weight higher thn 250g/m. It should do the trick.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the info guys! I needed to head out to Office Depot tonight anyway so I'll check and see if I can find stuff there.

For me, the main reason to have a mattebox is to have the place for filters.

yeah, stopping lens flair is good too, but you can do that without a mattebox.

this may sound silly, but a nice matt box makes the actors feel better about the shoot, the more filmlike the equipment looks the more confident they will be you can get it done.

I'd rather not a mattbox, than have one that looks homemade. but, if you can make it so it looks like its store bought, then by all means bust it out.

I modified those paper plans and made a mattebox out of black foam-core that looks (at least from a few feet away :)) to be the real deal. It is a lot sturdier than the cardboard one AND it has the benefit of being able to hold my filters...I love filters :). I think in terms of the el-cheapo mattebox foam-core is the way to go because you can actually modify it to hold the filters in place yet it is still light enough to attach onto the hood of the DVX...
